Overwhelmed? This Simple 10-Minute Spiritual Reset Can Help
The busier we are, the harder it is to stay spiritually connected.
When we’re overwhelmed, we tend to rush from task to task and appointment to appointment, tossing in basic requirements like eating and sleeping whenever we can. All the while, we lament that we don’t have time to slow down or regroup so we can function better.
Our days end up feeling like we’re living in the energy of a tornado—spinning us around, picking us up, and dropping us wherever it wants.
What if the answer to this “chaos energy” is simply to slow down and take 10 minutes to reconnect with our spirituality?
Whenever I feel stuck in indecision, or like I’m functioning from a place of panic, I use a 5-to-10-minute spiritual reset. This break isn’t a “waste” of time. Instead a ten-minute break can make the next ten minutes more productive than an hour spent in a chaotic state.
Here is my 3-step Spiritual Reset:
These are the steps that I take on my spiritual reset.
Step 1: Grounding
The goal is to get fully into the present moment. This looks different depending on where I am, but here are my go-to methods:
- Physically connect with the earth. I take off my shoes and connect with the earth. Or I will place my hand on a tree.
- Visualize connecting with nature. If I can’t get outside, I imagine I am at the beach or touching a tree.
- Deep breathing where the exhale is longer than the inhale. (This activates your parasympathetic nervous system.)
Step 2: Check in with Guides
Once grounded, I check in with my guides. I ask if there is one specific thing on my list that is the most important to tackle. If there is, I move forward with that.
If not, I rephrase and ask if there is anything that can get dropped from my list.
Step 3: Check in with Myself
Finally, I do a “human review.” This isn’t a big planning session; it’s a quick gut-check. I ask myself: “What is the one thing that needs to happen next?”
After this, I simply get back to work. Some days I do this multiple times — especially if my list is long or the collective energy feels “wonky.”
This isn’t about how many times you do it – it’s about slowing down to connect with your spirituality to make the day easier.
Create Your Rest Routine
Start to create a routine you can lean on when you feel overwhelmed. Give yourself permission to play with what works for you. This shouldn’t be a rigid structure. Instead, keep it simple and flexible so that you can use it anytime and anywhere you are feeling overwhelmed.
Journal Prompts to Help You Get Started
Use these prompts to help you create your own spiritual reset routine.
Quick Start Tip: Don’t feel like you have to answer all of these! Pick the one question that makes you go, “Oh, I definitely need to think about that,” and spend just three minutes writing your answer.
- Which element (Earth, Air, Water, Fire/Sun) feels most grounding to me? How can I access that element in my home or workspace in under 5 minutes?
- Does one of my senses have a more powerful reset point than the others? How can I build that into my reset? For example, does the smell of lavender, the sound of a singing bowl, or the weight of a heavy blanket ground you faster? If it is singing bowls, can you save a YouTube video to a playlist to quickly access it?
- Do I find it easier to ground through stillness or movement?
- What visual calms me down the fastest? For example, the ocean, a tree or stars?
- If I can’t leave my chair or workspace, what can I do without leaving? For example, can you have palm stone crystal to rub as you visualize the ocean.
- On days when I am completely exhausted and a full 10-minute reset feels like ‘too much work,’ what is the absolute bare minimum I can do to stay connected?
- How do I want to feel after my reset? What actions typically get me to this feeling?
Once you have your plan it is time to start implementing it!
