How to Recognize Energy Shifts: 3 Ways to Increase Self-Awareness
Change is constant. You’ve likely heard that before, but we often think of change only in terms of ourselves.
Yet change includes energy. The energy of your home, the energy of the world, the energy of your partner, kids and coworkers.
All energy is constantly changing.
And when energy changes, you are directly impacted – it changes you and your energy!
So, how do you increase your awareness so you can better navigate changing energy?

Personal Awareness – the more you know about yourself and your surroundings, the easier it is to pick up any changes.
Most people don’t notice an energy shift until they’re already feeling overwhelmed, irritated, exhausted, or disconnected. The key is learning what is normal for you first. When you know your own patterns, it’s easier to recognize when something has changed.
Self-Discovery
The first step of being able to catch energy changes is knowing what your “normal” energy is. It is hard to tell if your home’s energy is off if you don’t know what yours is.
For example, I know what my “normal” nighttime process is for going to sleep. I know if I am reading a great book and put it down, I will have to allow more time for unwinding. I know that if I have had an intense day, I will need to do extra energy clearing. I know how long to expect myself to fall asleep.
If my usual processes and habits are taken care of and I still can’t sleep, it tells me something may be influencing my energy that I haven’t yet identified. Without knowing how I function, I would never realize it wasn’t mine.
The following three things will help you learn more about yourself.
Emotional Healing Work
Healing work is critical to being able to understand who you are and why. When we take the time to address old emotional wounds, we learn why we do certain things, why we react or don’t react in certain ways.
The healing process shows us how we show up in the world. It gives us the space to remove what isn’t ours and begin to align more to who we are.
The more healing work I have done, the easier it has become to recognize what belongs to me and what doesn’t. (This is helpful in many areas of life, not just recognizing energy changes!)

Quiet Time
Part of learning yourself is knowing who you are when nothing else is going on. If you are constantly on the go, then it is hard to know yourself. By slowing down and giving yourself time to be with your own thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations, you learn yourself.
You can do this as meditation time or simply sitting with no intention. It doesn’t need to be structured. If you aren’t used to this, it may help to slowly build up the time you spend in silence. Start with five minutes and build from there.
Bonus step: after your quiet time, write down what came up and how that made you feel. This will help you see patterns and may even show you what you can do during your emotional healing practice.
Daily Self Check-In
You can pair this with your quiet time if you want, but it can be separate. With this, you want to understand how you are feeling emotionally, physically, and energetically. It will help you become more in tune with what is normal for you.
For example, I know that if I have more than a day or two of a bad mood, then something is off either energetically or spiritually. I have a list of go-to things that shift my mood and if those aren’t working after two days, I know there is something else happening. Then I can turn to space tending or do a check to see if I picked up a spiritual wound.
The only way I have learned this is through the two things above, plus paying attention to myself.
Awareness isn’t about preventing change. Change will happen. Awareness simply gives you the ability to recognize what is happening and choose how you respond.
The more you learn about yourself, the easier it becomes to notice when something shifts—and the more quickly you can return to balance.
