Small Business Coaching

Small Business Coaching to Create a Business You Love

Setting up and growing a business is not easy. Even when you think you have all the right ingredients and the perfect plan. It can quickly get off track. Why? Because running a business is more than just marketing. It's more than just your product. It is more than just the finances.

It comes down to the your perfect blend of the following:

Strategy & Planning

Without the right direction and goals, your business could end up anywhere. Strategy will help you create a focused plan that gets you and your business where you want it.

Once you know where you want to go, and have a plan - you still have to get there. Ensuring that your operations run smoothly, that you have the right tools in place and are following through.

Personal Skills

Businesses are run by people. And as people we all have personal issues that can stop us. Everything from poor time management, to communication can take your strategy off course.

Mastering each of these stages is important if you are a business of one or a business of 500. A solopreneur taking the wrong actions and self-sabotaging is equally as toxic as a CEO of a public company not understanding the value of his employees.

How We Address the Three Areas

Small Business Strategy

Businesses can take on a life of their own. You start with a plan, and slowly over time, you keep making decisions based on today's issue or topic.

Does this work? For a while. But what usually ends up happening is the company takes a direction you did not intend it. You become reactionary. The company you started no longer looks like what you intended, and you are starting to feel the struggle to maintain it.

What you need is a strategic plan.

What is a Strategic Plan and Why Does It Matter?

Strategic planning helps you pick out the long-term direction of your business. This is based on factors ranging from your strengths and weaknesses to industry trends and finances.

When you have the right strategic plan, it makes the rest of your business decisions easier. It serves as a lighthouse to remind you what way to take your business.

You take what you decide on in your strategic planning process and create marketing plans, employee decisions and even succession plans. Just in case you ever want to retire.

Without a strategic plan, your business can quickly get off track. Even if you do everything right and create a highly profitable business. You might not end up with a business you love. Strategic planning keeps you on the right road to a profitable business that you can't wait to work on!

Small Business Operations

Now you have a strategic plan in place, it is time to get to work in making your direction a reality.

This step not only creates specific marketing and management plans. But also puts processes and targets with the plans.

For example, creating a marketing plan that matches your strengths, budget and time available. Then setting up the right tools and schedule to execute on the marketing plan.

This step is important, because without a plan for how you are going to manage your business - it won't get done. This step gives you the daily actions that you need to take to grow your business.

Personal Growth

While this stage is different for every owner, I have yet to work with an owner that has nothing to work on! Depending on your needs we can work on skills such as organization or time management.

Or we may end up working on how to have more confidence. This can lead us to facing your limiting beliefs and learning more about why you interact with others the way you do.

My weekly newsletter focuses on this area. Using each week for a short lesson with journal prompts to help you explore it. Learn more and sign up today!

My Coaching Steps

Over the years of running a small business I created different tools for each of the above issues. Creating this four-step process. As I walk you through each step, I provide you with worksheets and education to make all this easier for you. You don't have to try and do this on your own!

small business coaching
  • Step One: Owner's Life Plan. See the thing about small business is that they are intimately tied to the owner. So, if you are unhappy running your business because it's long-term plan does not match yours - you will quickly burn out. Instead of your business supporting you, you will dread working it. So, we start with you. What do you want. What do you want your days to look like? How big do you want your business to grow?
  • Step Two: Business Strategy. Now we begin to pull together a strategic plan for your business. We do this in a way that works best for you and your business. It can include everything from workshops, employee interviews, and retreats. To us doing it one on one.  We work together to decide what is the fastest and most effective way for your company to create a plan.
  • Step Three: Implementation Plans. I will not leave you with some wordy document. I help pull together plans to implement the strategies that you decide are the most important. Complete with goals, timelines, and resources to move forward.
  • Step Four: Accountability and Problem Solving. Business coaching will help you stay focused on your target and deal with any issues that come up. Running your business daily takes a lot of time, having accountability helps you stay on track of your goals. We ensure you are on track and implementing the long-term strategic goals that will make your business better.

How is My Coaching Different?

Besides for the process that I have put together here are some beliefs I hold and some things you can expect when you work with me.

I won't sell you one specific way to do something. We are all different, so what works for me might not work for you. We have different tendencies and personalities. This is where my decades of study and experience come in. Not only do I understand how I run my business, but many other ways! In fact, sometimes I try out new ideas and platforms that have nothing to do with my business - just for fun and to be able to share what I learn.

There are no promises of quick and easy returns. Business is hard work. And businesses that last take time to be built. So, while promoting quick and easy income is trendy in business marketing, it's not realistic. I have seen too many shortcuts end up destroying businesses, to not take the time to do things right.

I won't sell you what is trendy, just so I can make a buck. Being blindly sold the latest trend in business is not good for your businesses. It will only leave you burnt out, broke, and frustrated that nothing is working. It might be that your business and skills actually need a good old-fashioned approach. I have personal horror stories from trying to make my businesses fit trends. I eventually learned it's just not worth it, if it is not a good fit. Not every tool works for every business. I will help you find the right one for you.

I focus on profit. Most marketing numbers that are thrown around are all revenue. And while revenue is great, it doesn't mean anything to your personal finances if it doesn't result in profit. If you find a way to increase your revenue but after the costs it actually costs you money then it is not good for your business!

Do I have to do all four steps?

You do not need to do all of the steps listed above. We can work together on a strategy and you create the rest. Or we can do everything but the ongoing coaching. I customize the package to your needs. Schedule a call so we can talk about exactly what your needs are.

I am a solopreneur, is this for me?

Absolutely! In fact, I believe it is even more important. Why? Because you are doing everything. It is even easier for you to get off track. Understanding what you and and how you are going to get there, will help you stay focused. And reduce stress, as you know exactly what you need to be doing and when.
